Last night I went to bed at 5am and randomly awoke at 10:30am this morning, and boy am I glad I got up and didn’t head back to sleep. After I had the worlds quickest shower I came downstairs to find that the Formula 1 practice 2 session was about to start. I normally try and watch these practice sessions as it’s a good way to see how well the teams are doing since the last race, and whether or not if they have put any new updates on the cars. The practice sessions are always covered by Radio 5 Live (and they do an amazing job) and they often read out tweets or emails that people send in and and respond to them.

Today they had a special guest with them, Technical Director of the Hispania Racing team (HRT) Geoff Willis. It was half way through the covered that I decided to send in a tweet about how a student such as myself would get into the technical side of Formula 1? It was to my amazement that this tweet was read out live with my name stated before it. I was like a cat on a hot tin roof…in the sense that I was bouncing off everything…mentally of course…anyway…Mr Willis answered my question and I feel that it has spurred me on to see if I can get involved in Formula 1′s technical area at some point in the future, perhaps during next summer as work experience.

So while I was still living off the excitement of having my question read out and answered live on air, I HAD A SECOND QUESTION READ OUT! This one was about a way to get third drivers more involved in Formula 1. I suggested about having a third car and after qualifying on Saturday to have a small feature race where only reserve and test drivers can take place. This would allow the teams to test new parts and also give reserve drivers a chance to get behind the wheel of an F1 car and race it. I understand that money would be an issue here as running a third car and transporting it about would wouldn’t be cheap but perhaps only have it for the European races so it doesn’t have to be moved half way across the world and back, I don’t know, I’m sure a middle ground could be found somewhere.

Anyway, that’s me done for now, I’m off to find a way to get into F1 as a career.
